Deputy Chief of Mission in the Indian embassy in Riyadh Sibi George told a delegation from Karnataka comprising of Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader and Coastaldigest.com chairman Mohammad Asif that more than 8,000 expatriate Indians from different states had taken part in the job fair organized by the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce in Riyadh from June 22 to 26.
Mr George also said that the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia has taken all possible steps to ease the problems of Indian expatriates in the Arab nation.
The Embassy would also help those Indian nationals eligible to change their jobs to new companies but unable to get their passports from their original sponsors, he said, adding that in such cases applicants should submit their passport applications under renewal category. “Embassy will issue new passports for them,” he said.
The diplomat also said that around 50,000 Indian expatriates including Kannadigas have been have already been deported from Saudi Arabia following the commencement of the process to implement Nitaqat in the country.
The grace period for expatriate workers announced by the Saudi government either to rectify their residency status to get new sponsors and jobs or leave the country will expire on July 3.
Indian expatriates have been badly hit by the law, with several of them losing jobs. Over two million Indians are currently working in Saudi Arabia.
