Senior cartoonist Harishchandra Shetty popularly known as Harini inaugurated the exhibition by sketching a caricature of the chief guest U B Rajalakshmi, who is the executive editor of Kannada weekly Taranga.
Over 140 works of cartoonists such as Prashanth Shetty, Prakash Shetty, Jeevan, Satish Acharya, Dinesh Holla, youngster Nikhil Pai, Santhosh Sasihitlu, Shailesh Ujire, Shyamsundar, Uday Vittla, Amrith Vijla, Shivaram Puttur and John Chandran were displayed.
The highlight of the exhibition was a 17 ft x 5 ft long cartoon made by Prashanth Shetty from Mumbai, who is originally from Yellur in Udupi district. The cartoon depicts a hilarious scene from the shooting of a movie in the film industry.
Mr Shetty (41) who is known as 'Chitra Mitra', told Coastaldigest.com that the cartoon approximately took three days to finish. He began sketching from the age of six and hasn't looked back since. Without any formal training in sketching, he has been drawing and painting for about 35 years now.
Mr Shetty said that he has held solo exhibitions in Mangalore in 2005, 2007 and 2009. He began painting Mythology and has countless works of art to his credit. “Since I do not have any formal training in art, I have tried my hand at all types of painting, including water colours and acrylic,” he said.
He says that he specialises in painting the Mythological character of Hanuman, as that is his favourite subject. A total of 16 caricatures by Mr Shetty are put up for display in the exhibition.
A total of 15 of Harini's caricatures were on display.
After inquisitions from several mediapersons at the exhibition, both Prashanth and Harini obliged and sketched caricatures on request for a few present there, much to their delight.
The exhibition will be open to the public for viewing on Tuesday and Wednesday.
