Mangalore, Jul 5: A minority youth, who had been to Panambur police station to complete his passport procedures has complained to the Police Commissioner of the cops there allegedly assaulting him without any particular reason.
Mohammad Imran, resident of Kasaba Bengre in his letter to the Commissioner has urged the Commissioner to take legal action against the said police personnel and also take steps to issue him his impending passport.
Imran in the letter said that two weeks ago he had been to Panambur police station in connection to his passport procurement process.
Amidst the document, Mr Imran has attached the documents pertaining to his acquittal order in a rioting case in which he was falsely implicated, when he was a school student, about 7 to 8 years ago.
“One Mr Periera of Panambur police station had contacted me over the phone and had asked me to come to the station and submit documents again. He had said that a case was pending against me. Accordingly on July 3, I had been to the station along with original documents of the Court order on acquittal. On reaching the station, the said Mr Periera assaulted me and kept me in the station,” said Mr Imran in the complaint.
He said that when activists from DYFI came to meet him, the cops denied permission. Mr Imran has further said that the cops did not just take his signatures on blank sheets but also threatened him of implicating him in false cases if he dared to complain against them.
“We will see to it that you are denied passport and you remain behind bars,” the law keepers had threatened, said Imran adding that later an officer let him free.
