Manipal, Jul 9: A team headed by Udupi Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer S Prabhakar Sharma visited various places in the city and identified four children of migrant workers and enrolled them to schools on Monday. While three remained out of the portals of schools, one was a drop out.
The operation was continued even on Tuesday.
The operation which was started due to the sheer interest of the CEO last year has been continued even this year. The team accompanied by Labour department officials, Women and Child Welfare department officials and Education Department officials visited places like Nittoor and Beedinagudde areas, which have large population of migrant labourers dwelling and found children who have remained outside the portals of schools.
Sankamma (8) from Bagalkot was found by the team at Nittoor. She was enrolled to Hanmanthnagar school. Sankamma had lost her parents and hence had been living with her maternal aunt. The girl was given with shoes, uniform and bags from the Education Department to attend the school.
At Beedinagudde Reshma (7), Vittal (6) and Yellappa (11) have been enrolled to the school. Vittal and Yellappa have been enrolled to Volakadu Government School and Reshma has been admitted to first standard in Mahatma Gandhi School near City Municipal Council. Yellappa is a school dropout.
