Speaking on the occasion of World Population Day at a programme organised at District Wenlock Hospital RAPCC Auditorium here on Thursday, he said that awareness programmes should be regularly held to check population explosion.
“It is possible to control the growth of population by educating each individual,” he added.
Mangalore City South MLA J R Lobo said that a significant change could be brought if religious leaders realise their responsibilities and try to make people aware of the situation.
Mangalore City North MLA Moideen Bava said that it was possible to control population explosion by creating awareness among the youth.
The programme was organised by DK district administration, Zilla panchayat and District Health and Family Welfare Department in collaboration with National Service Scheme under Mangalore University.
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash and Zilla panchayat CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash were present on the occasion. Dr Ramakrishna made the introductory remarks. District AIDS Control Officer Dr Kishore welcomed the gathering and District Surveillance Officer Dr Rajesh delivered a vote of thanks.
Following the programme, District Reproductive and Child Health Officer Dr Rukmini delivered a seminar on 'Population stability and development of the nation'.
