Around two hundred students from various Polytechnic colleges marched on the main streets of the city raising slogans and urging government to fulfill their demand.
The bandh call was given by the Polytechnic All College Students Association.
Ramith Kumar, president of the association, said that the issues related to the carry over system has forced hundreds of diploma students to quit education.
“As many as 5,000 students in the coastal region are facing difficulties because of the new carry over system. The high court had directed that the government to allow diploma students to enter next the semester even if they have failed in 10 subjects,” he said.
He said that the state government discontinued the system by reducing the number of failed subjects for the current academic year. Accordingly, students who have failed in more than four subjects are not eligible to enter the next semester; he said adding that it will affect the education of hundreds of students across the state.
