Mangalore, Aug 6: In a gruesome incident, a youth was viciously stabbed to death by a gang of men late at night on Monday at Jeppu-Morgansgate in the suburbs of the city.
It is learnt that Vikranth was employed at a recreation club near Kallapu, and left for home in his scooter at about 10.30 p.m. after finishing work on Monday. He was followed by his friend Sundar Prakash Shetty on a motorcycle. Since it was night, the roads were deserted.
On the way home, Vikranth was waylaid by a gang of men who knocked down his scooter and attacked him with swords. When Sundar arrived at spot few minutes later, he saw Vikranth bleeding profusely on the road, and a black Mahindra Scorpio driving away.
At first, it was presumed that it was a case of 'hit and run'. However, sleuths from Pandeshwar police station arrived at the scene, and determined that it was a case of murder, looking at his injuries.
Vikranth died of his injuries on the way to the hospital. He suffered grave injuries on his face, arms and legs.
It is also learnt that Vikranth had been an accused in an assault case previously, resulting in suspicion that his murder may have been in connection with the same case.
