It is said that Harish from Kasargod and Sowmya from Sullia were in love with each other. But Narayan Naik, father of Sowmya was against the idea of two getting married. He had posed a condition that the two cannot get married till Sowmya completes her education. Raged by this it is said that Harish had gained entry into Sowmya's house and slit her hand with a knife, on May 10, 2011. A case was registered with Sullia police and the accused was in judicial custody.
However, a hearing of the case was posted to December 12, 2012, but on this day the couple escaped the public eye and got married. Narayan Naik appeared before the court and said that Harish had eloped with Sowmya. The Court summoned the couple and during this appearance before the Court Sowmya said that Harish had not hurt her but instead, it was her father who hatched the plot of putting Harish into a fix to separate the two.
Public Prosecutor K Shivaprasad Alva argued and said that if at all Harish deceives the girl then she will be left in lurch. Mr Alva called the entire marriage to be a plan of Harish to escape punishment in assault case.
Puttur Fifth Additional District Sessions Court judge T J Shivashankar Gowda ordered the couple to register their marriage within two months and also asked Harish to deposit Rs 1 lakh to the court as security to the girl.
