Mangalore, Aug 16: The 66th Independence Day was celebrated in a unique way at Besant Women's College. A Self Employment Outreach Programme was organised a part of I-Day by the Outreach Programme Unit of the College in association with Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project(SKDRDP), Mangalore at the College Auditorium .The training programme was focused at the Anganwadi teachers, members of Self Help Groups and selected parents of Besant college Students. During the programme the trained students of the college taught the beneficiaries to prepare soap oil, phenyle, organza flowers, tie and dye designs and candle. About 200 unemployed women participated in the programme.
Manorama Bhat, Diretor -SKDRDP was the guest of honor for the inauguration programme. She said the women's empowerment is the need of the hour .Women must have social as well as financial empowerment. The social empowerment involves education, awareness of her rights, information on health and hygiene where as financial empowerment deals with her capability to earn and decide how to spend or save her earnings.
"Any skill after acquisition must me practiced and continuously used to get success at work. By acceptance of change coupled with positive mindset women can become accomplished self employed citizens," she opined. A documentary on training programmes conducted for students at the college was screened during the programme.
Mohan Nayak, Correspondent -Besant Women's College presided over the Programme.
Raghava M, Project Officer SKDRDP Mangalore, The Principal Prof. Pushpalath B.K among others were present.
