The theft has taken place in 'Popular building' and another building next to this, near old bus stand.
The matter came to light on Tuesday morning.
'Popular building' owned by Harish Nayak has five shops doing jewellery manufacturing in second and third floor, one herbal medicine shop and one local news daily office functioning in it.
The thieves have taken away gold, silver ornaments and cash from the shops all running into lakhs.
The thieves have broken open the main gate of the III floor of the complex and tried their luck in Vishwashree Gems and Jewellers, Guruprasad Jewellers and some other units as well. Chalukya, a newspaper office was also robbed by the thieves.
The CCTV camera installed in Vishwashree Gems and Jewellers has shot the theft and the face of the two involved in the theft has been shown in the footages clearly.
The theft had taken place around 4.15 am, as per the footages of the CCTV camera.
It is said that one of the robbers is a youth while the other is about 45-50 years old.
It is said that robbing the jewelry shops was the main aim of the thieves while it is suspected that as the thieves were unable to read the local language, they had entered the herbal shop and newspaper office thinking that those too are jewellery shop units.
The entry
The thieves first climbed third floor of the Popular building and opened the main gate breaking the lock and then entered the jeweler unit of Guruprasad Shet.
Packing off the valuable, they then proceeded to Mr Naveen's jewellery shop, then to a machine cutting unit, then newspaper office, followed by herbal shop and then Vishwashree jewelers at last.
They then proceeded to the next building and robbed Swapna jewelers.
The area where the serial theft has taken place is not an isolated area. The bus stand area has several residential complexes around and what is surprising is the fact that there was no noise of the robbers breaking open the lock.
The locals say that there are all possibilities of the local having a role to play in the theft.
Sniffers and fingerprint experts have inspected the spot.
