The trophies were awarded to the winning teams by former Union Minister B Janardhan Poojary at the closing ceremony of the Championships held at Town Hall here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, general secretary of Asian Powerlifting Federation and 'Arjuna' awardee Subrata Dutta hoped that the Asian Powerlifting Championship – 2014 would be held in Karnataka, considering the best hospitality that the participating teams received in Mangalore.
The powerlifting group members from Davangere in Karnataka felicitated KPA general secretary Sathish Kumar Kudroli. As many as 38 national and eight international powerlifting referees were felicitated by the organisers on the occasion.
Close to 500 participants from 23 teams from various states across the nation took part in the national-level championship.
In the equipped category, P Suresh from RSPB bagged the title 'Strong Man of India -2013' and Anjali from Uttar Pradesh bagged the title 'Strong Woman of India -2013'. RSPB won the team championship in both men's and women's group.
In the unequipped category, Y Raghavendra from Andhra Pradesh bagged the 'Strong Man of India -2013' and K Humeshowri from Manipur bagged the 'Strong Woman of India -2013'. Karnataka won the team championship in the men's group, while Andhra Pradesh won the championship in women's group.
Chairman of the organising committee A Sadanand Shetty welcomed the gathering.
KPA vice-president Mahadevaiah Matapathi, IPF vice-president Anwar Hussain, MCC corporator Jacintha Alfred, members of organising committee Madhuchandra M, K Thejomaya, Raghunath Shet, Purandardas Kulur, Mahabala Marla, Shrikar Prabhu and others were present on the occasion.
