Although there are no temples in Mangalore devoted entirely to Sri Krishna, Janmashtami was elaborately celebrated in the city temples and by associations in every nook and corner.
The celebrations in Udupi will have no match because it is the town which houses the world famous Sri Krishna Temple and the 'Ashtamathas' dedicated to serve the Sri Krishna himself.
The temples were crowded with devotees thronging to make special offerings on the day. Cultural events and programmes were held at various venues beckoning devotees to either participate or enjoy the show as audience.
Many youth organisations at various places across the district had organised the 'Mosaru Kudike' event, a game specifically played during Janmastami.
Krishna makes appearance
Several organisatons had organised the 'Krishna Vesha' competitions and accordingly enthusiastic parents were seen taking their kids dressed like little Krishnas to take part in the events. From toddlers to kids, thousands of little children thronged to various venues of this particular competition to bring Bala Krishna alive.
Soured vegetable, flower prices
This festive season, the consumers buying flowers and vegetables had to pay higher price due to shortage in supply and excess demand. Chrysanthemum and marigold flowers recorded highest price of Rs 100 per meter garland.
The vendors selling 'Kottige' and 'Moode', the typical molds used in coastal belt to make 'idlies' sold the molds like hot cakes. Kottige and Moode are two types of 'idlies' prepared at every household on Janmashtami using rice and dal dough.
