Bangalore, Aug 29: A teenage girl has alleged that her own father, a labour contractor from Bihar, raped her in the past three months in the City. The suspect, who was on a business trip to New Delhi, was arrested after he flew back on Tuesday evening.

The 17-year-old victim made a distress call to the police control room on Monday, alleging sexual abuse by her father, Suraj Singh (name changed), 45. She was then directed to approach Peenya police.

The girl, in her complaint to the police, alleged that Singh repeatedly raped her ever since she started staying with him in his flat at a posh apartment complex on Bagalagunte Main Road three months ago.

Earlier, she was staying in Bihar with her mother, whom Singh has divorced. Singh's second wife and her two children also stay there. Singh, the victim further said, convinced her mother to send her to the City so that he could enrol her in a good college. She had completed intermediate education in Bihar. She was, however, not enrolled in any college as yet.

The suspect threatened the girl of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to her mother or anyone else. Police said it was to be investigated whether the suspect's immediate family knew about the crime.

Living in the City for the past seven years, Singh's occupation is to bring construction labourers from his homestate. He is also a small-time civil contractor. It is his only daughter from the first marriage who has alleged rape against him.

The victim underwent medical examination at Vani Vilas Hospital on Tuesday and Wednesday. Doctors have not yet submitted a final report to the police. Sandeep Patil, DCP (North), however, quoted preliminary report and said there was “positive evidence” of sexual abuse on the young girl.

Singh was also subjected to medical examination at the Forensic Medicine Department at Victoria Hospital. Police said he was pleading innocence. He alleged the entire incident was a “ploy” by his first wife to take revenge on him.

Investigators insist they have an “open mind” on the case.
