Mangalore, Aug 31: K Pratapsimha Nayak of Belthangady took charge as the new BJP president of Dakshina Kannada district unit at an installation programme held at C V Nayak Hall here on Saturday.
Outgoing district president K Padmanabha Kottary formally handed over the charge to Pratapsimha Nayak on the occasion.
Prathapasimha Nayak has been elected for the second time as the district president of the party.
Speaking on the occasion, former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda said that BJP lost in the previous elections, which was a major setback to the party. However, the setback is only a temporary one which the party will overcome and bounce back to power in future. “It is absolutely false to say that people rejected BJP for its anti-people policies. It was only the previous BJP-led government that made the most progress in the state in five years. Even Congress had tasted such a defeat previously in the state,” he said, claiming that Congress would face defeat again.
“We are witnessing the Congress getting divided into groups today. Apart from playing politics of hatred, Congress is unconcerned about the problems that surround the country,” he said, claiming that administration of the Congress government had failed in the state.
MP Nalini Kumar Kateel said that the new president would lead the party back to power in the coming elections.
New presidents and vice-presidents of BJP units in eight constituencies in the district were announced on the occasion.
Former law minister Suresh Kumar also spoke on the gathering. Padmanabha Kottary welcomed the gathering.
MLC K Monappa Bhandary, MLA of Sullia constituency S Angara, former law minister Suresh Kumar, former district-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, former deputy speaker of state legislative assembly N Yogish Bhat and BJP leaders Nagaraj Shetty and Sulochana G K Bhat were present.
