Dalit representative Ashok Konchady said that Dalit unions should have been informed about the visit of National Commission or such authorities before their arrival so that they could inform them about problems faced by the community. The National Commission member made a statement that atrocity cases were fewer in DK which is not true. In future, prior intimation should be given during such visits, he stressed.
In response to this, SP Abhishek Goyal replied that the matter would be brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner.
In the meeting, Dalit community member Koosappa said that he had lodged a complaint at Puttur rural police station alleging threats to his life. However, the police have submitted 'B report' in the case. A memorandum has also been submitted to the Superintendent of Police in this regard, he said, urging that re-investigation should be conducted in this case by higher police officials.
He also alleged that the sub-inspector of Kadaba police station was involved in urging the accused in few atrocity cases to file counter-cases against the complainants, to which, the SP replied that he would conduct investigation in both matters separately.
Mr Konchady also alleged that the accused in the suspected murder case of Eshwara who was found dead in a pond in Sullia taluk was not arrested, to which the inspector replied that no injuries had been found on the dead body and no evidence was found to suggest that he had been murdered.
The alibi of both the accused has checked out, said that inspector.
SP Abhishek Goyal said that there was a proposal to set up a new traffic police station in Bantwal town, to solve the traffic woes that arise in the taluk. Five home guards out of newly-inducted 21 home guards will be appointed to sort out traffic congestion and related problems in Bantwal, he said.
