Mangalore, Sep 4: Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake said in Mangalore on Tuesday that the government will give special grant of Rs. 100 crore to Mangalore City Corporation for infrastructure development.
Speaking to mediapersons after his visit to the corporation here on Tuesday, he said that the government has released Rs 15 crore out of the second installment of Rs 100 crore sanctioned by the previous government and the remaining sum would be released shortly. Of the total sum, Rs 50 crore will be released as a loan while the rest will be released as a grant. In the third installment, Rs 100 crore each will be released to 10 corporations in the third installment, he said.
Plan for Greater Mangalore
Towards building a Greater Mangalore, the Minister said that he had directed the MCC Commissioner to send a proposal on this to his ministry within a fortnight.
The urban local bodies of Mulki, Ullal, Bajpe and Konaje will be brought under Greater Mangalore. Ministers Abhaychandra Jain and U T Khader are eager to include few areas of their constituencies under this proposal, he said.
MCC Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde said that Moodusheede gram panchayat has also passed a resolution consenting their agreement to become part of Greater Mangalore.
Training for members
For efficient implementation of various schemes of the government, members of all the corporations in the state will undergo training programme in Mysore, once the Mayor has been elected, he said.
Direct appointment
The government is ready to directly appoint maximum number of members for vacant posts in the corporations in the state, since over 1000 posts were vacant in the corporations, he said.
