Addressing the demonstrators, DYFI district president Muneer Katipalla said that there were stronger forces at work behind the double murders that took place in Panjimogaru over two years ago. Initially, the police had assured the families that they found concrete evidence of the culprits. However, citizens of the locality lost their faith in the police department since they failed to arrest the culprits even after months,” he said, urging for CBI investigation in the case.
“Now, even the CID has failed to crack the case. Although there are various dimensions to the case which are not being probed, the investigation department has been scrutinizing merely the families of the victims. We have no faith in the CID investigation. The real culprits should be caught,” he stressed, adding that it was a failure of the system if the culprits were not caught inspite of the murder having taken place in a populated locality.
He also said that the case has led to disunity and in-fighting among the families of slain Razia and her husband, with both families accusing each other of having a hand in the murders. It should be revealed as to who is behind the murders and what their interests are,” he said, adding that both families had also urged that the case be handed over to the CBI.
DYFI Panjimogaru unit president Basheer Ahmed, secretary Ibrahim Khaleel, corporator Dayanand Shetty, Soumya Panjimogaru, DYFI city unit secretary Santhosh Bajal, student leader Jeevan Kuthar, labourer union leader Vasanth Achari, Anil D'Souza, Jayanthi Shetty participated in the sit-in demonstration among several others.
It may be recalled that Razia was found murdered with her 8-year-old daughter Fathima Zuha at their house in Panjimogaru in the city on June 28, 2011.
