Al-Jubail, Sep 13: It was a surprise gift for Kannadiga students studying at International Indian School located in the Saudi Arabia's industrial city of Al-Jubail.

Over 200 NRI students of Karnataka origin, who had opted Kannada as one of their subjects of learning in the school received their Kannada text books, thanks to the arrangements made by Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader.

Scarcity of Kannada textbooks is an age-old problem in most of the Indian international schools in Saudi Arabia and other gulf countries, where thousands of Kannadigas wish to see their children learn Kannada. in such school, the students with Kannada optional often get their text books photocopied as there is no Kannada textbook publishing facility in gulf.

U T Khader, during his Saudi visit earlier this year to participate in Coastaldigest.com gala, had promised to address this problem. As promised, Mr Khader sent a bundle of around 300 books to Coastldigest.com office for free distribution in International Indian School in Al-Jubail.

The books were dispatched to Saudi Arabia earlier this week. School principal Dr Syed Hameed and Kannada teacher Veena received books from Coastaldigest.com chairman Mohammed Asif.
