Mangalore, Sep 13: They call themselves'Dreamers' and this team of four has almost realized most of their dreams, undoubtedly.
At an age when most of their counterparts would be seen hanging out with friends, the'Dreamers' have shown that India's future of research are in safe hands.
As a feather on their cap, the Dreamers were felicitated by none other than Padma Bhushan and C. V. Raman Awardee, Prof. B. V. Sreekantan, an eminent Researcher of International repute who was invited to Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management to meet and interact with the members of the newly formed VTU Research Consortium under the aegis of the Karnataka Government Research Center Sahyadri (KGRCS).
Dreamers?
Who are dreamers and why were they feted?
Well, to answer that'Dreamers' is a young team of four students from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangalore, who won the First place in the NSSC '13 at IIT-Kharagpur, for their innovative design of an `All-terrain vehicle for use on the surface of the moon.'
"DREAMERS"(Diversified Real-time Engineers Aspiring to Marvell in Energy, Resources & Self), members of the Alpha Flying Club, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, comprising Johnson Tellis and Fadil Luqman, Semester V, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Gautham Nayak, Semester V, Department of Mechanical Engineering; and Aman Agarwal, Semester III, Department of Computer Science Engineering, through this have catapulted the college yet again onto the national map. The project was guided and supported by Prof. Abdul Kareem, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering.
The Drill-Droid event in which the team won the first place aims to help in the endeavour to make new and fascinating discoveries ever since NASA's Mars Science Laboratory landed the Curiosity Rover on Mars in 2011, with the efforts of finding evidence of life.
With a terrain already laid out with specifics and the judging parameters being stringent, it was only a matter of time before the team, `DREAMERS,' was able to clinch the First place in the event, competing against more than twenty teams from different states and setting up a high score of 600+ leaving behind about other 20 teams with 300 points, including IITians and NITians. Thought to be a perfect bot, it still emerged with some hiccups. The team persevered till the very end and by implementing unique ideas firmed its position to the highest zenith. All who were a part of the event appreciated the team work and capabilities.
And also
Two team members of "DREAMERS" Invented and filed first patent of KGRCS. This very first patent has following novelties:
1. Solar-Electricity is produced through Muscle Power.
2. Solar-Energy is Stored in our body, which is a lead-free battery.
3. Thus stored Solar-Energy could light 1W Table Lamp by 10W Feet-Pedaling.
4. Muscle Power can generate up to 100W electricity by pedaling cycle on stand.
5. Muscle Power is also UPS & could light full home with up to 100 W.
6. This UPS could also power home gadgets such as TV, mobile phone etc.
7. This novel UPS could also power lifesaving hospital gadgets.
8. Capacity of 1.5 Billion Indian Public is : 15 GWe @ 10 W/head for Table Lamp and 150 GWe @ 100 W/head for UPS.
Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri Educational Institutions, Principal, Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management and Prof. B. N. Karkera, Director, KGRCS, were also present on the occasion.
