Mangalore, Sep 14: The widow of slain rowdy-sheeter Thingaldy Umesh Rai, allegedly ended her life on a railway track near Kabaka in Puttur.
35-year-old Soumya had married to Umesh Rai over 15 years ago in spite of strong opposition by her father late Muttappa Gowda.
She had left her parental house forever. After marriage, she was living with her husband Rai till March 2010, when the latter was murdered.
After the murder of Rai, she was residing in rented houses at Salmara and Kabaka near Puttur. A few days ago she relocated to her mother-in-law's house at Kallagudde, Keyyur village.
On Thursday morning Sowmya had left house saying she will return home after visiting town but late night she was found dead on railway track near Kabaka, Puttur.
After the death of Umesh Rai, she had sent her two children - Kavya and Shreya - to an orphanage and started living alone battling poverty.
It is learnt that the husband's death made her to lose mental stability and commit suicide.
Police bury body
It is learnt that Soumya had resorted to this extreme step on Thursday night. However the incident came to light only on Friday. Her dead body has been kept at the mortuary in Wenlock Hospital Mangalore.
Sources said that even though her mother-in-law Sarojini was informed about the incident, due to her financial condition she refused to bury it. Since she had left her parents, her brothers too refused to bury it. Finally dead body was buried in Mangalore by police.
