It is said that the lorry which was bound towards Sullia to load arecanut from APMC was stopped by the two Puttur police station constables Harish and Dayananda at Santhyar.
When the driver did not stop the vehicle, it raged the constables who chased the lorry in a car, stopped and thrashed the driver to the extent that his hip was injured seriously. Seeing this, people gathered at the spot and criticized the inhuman behavior of the constables. The shocked local residents condemning the high-handedness of the constables demanded suspension of the two from service.
When the situation was about to turn violent, Sampya Station Inspector Jagadeesh Reddy intervened and convinced the angry onlookers by saying that he would bring the issue to the notice of the higher ups.
Meanwhile, the victim who was in an unconscious state was shifted to Puttur Government Hospital in 108 ambulance service.
Volamogaru GP fromer president Abdurrahman Ariyadka said that it was unfortunate to see a youth who had come to the district from other state for livelihood meeting this tragedy at the hands of law keepers.
“This kind of behavior is not accepted from police. Communal thinking and inclination is a dangerous trend prevailing among the police,” he said.
MLA Shakunthala Shetty who visited the victim at the hospital said that the higher ups will be directed to initiate action against the two constables responsible for the act.
Additional SP Shivakumar, Circle Inspector Suresh Kumar among others visited the hospital.
