Mangalore, Sep 15: Condemning the income-tax raids on religious institutions run by mutts and scandalising the heads of mutts in the state, the Karnataka state committee of Akhila Bharata Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) has alleged the state government of looting the funds earned by the Hindu temples.
Criticising this move by the state government, ABHM state general secretary Shravan Kumar Raikar told reporters at a press meet on Sunday that the organisation would undertake state-wide protests in the coming days against this.
Taking on writer Yogesh Master, he said that the writer has portrayed Lord Ganesha in wrong light in his novel. "The writer must be boycotted and personalities like Banjagere Jayaprakash and Girish Karnad must be criticised for supporting him," said Mr Raikar.
Censor Board
Speaking on the occasion, ABHM Karnataka state working president Swami Pranavanandaram said that writing derogatory material against Hindu gods and beliefs in novels was a political conspiracy to oppress the Hindu community at large, and publishing such content should be curtailed. In order to do this, the government should establish a Sahitya Censor Board to censor the content in books and novels in the future, he said, stressing that it would not be tolerated.
He also urged the government to immediately restore the cow-slaughter prevention act, which he said would check the rampant illegal cattle trade in the state.
Members of the state committee also urged the state government to have housing schemes for Hindu temple priests.
ABHM state committee secretary Harish Acharya, state president of youth unit Umesh Shrinivas Murthy and DK district president Rajesh Poojary were present.
