Kuwait, Sep 19: Not all those who migrate to the Gulf nations with big dreams in their eyes and seeking greener pastures can have their dreams fulfilled. There are many who have been webbed after being promised of company jobs but end up in far off Middle East countries as domestic helpers.

There are many more who are even forced to languish behind bars for no fault of theirs. This is the story of one such person from Mangalore who struggled for nearly 12 years and recently returned to his homeland, thanks to the kind gesture of Kuwait India Fraternity Forum (KIFF).

He is Aboobakker, a taxi driver of Mangalore origin who is now happy to be back home with his family after years of turmoil when he was caught in several cases. Hailing from Beluvai near Moodbidri, Aboobakker is presently based at Gurupura. He had left for Kuwait in 1998 to work as a bus driver.

He has once returned home after three-and-half years of service and went back to Kuwait where he joined as a driver in a taxi company. Everything was fine for the first two years. But soon he had to search for a new job and he joined another Taxi company. But the sponsor concerned was harassing Aboobakker by not furnishing necessary documents. This forced Aboobakker to face several cases for driving a vehicle sans proper records.

Aboobakker, being frustrated, handed over the car and its keys to the sponsor saying he will start work only after he gets the valid documents. But problems began when a case was registered against Aboobakker for abstaining from work for long duration and also stating he had arrears to be cleared. When Aboobakker could not reimburse the amount, he was banned from travelling to hometown for several years.

A relative of Aboobakker on getting to know his plight contacted the Kuwait India Fraternity Forum (KIFF) which rushed to his aid.

KIFF expressed its gratitude to KKMA Karnataka unit and various NRIs for the cooperation they extended in resolving the issue.

Aboobakker who is now a happy man says his son who was just six when he left to Kuwait is now studying B.Com while his daughter is in tenth standard.

"Several people of the neighborhood had arrived to see me after a gap of several years," he says with a smile.

Mangaluru: A native of Kerala was arrested on charge of misbehaving with crew on an Air India Express flight while travelling from Dubai to Mangaluru International Airport. The man even threatened to jump from the aircraft, according to officials.

Siddartha Das, the security coordinator for Air India Express, lodged a complaint against the passenger, identified as Muhammad BC from Kannur, Kerala, after which he was caught by the airport security once the flight landed at Mangaluru. He was later handed over to the police.

DCP (Law and Order) Sidharth Goyal said the incident occurred on Flight IX814 on May 8.

When the flight was above the sea, Muhammad reportedly said he wanted to get off the plane, posing a threat to all on board. The unruly flyer was detained by airport security once the flight landed at Mangaluru International Airport and he was handed over to Bajpe police station officials.

Sources added once the flight took off from Dubai, the accused went to the lavatory and thereafter started inquiring with the cabin crew about a person named Krishna who was not on the flight. Muhammad kept on pressing the bell for in-flight assistance, even though the cabin crew members were near at hand. He then picked up a life jacket, gave it to a crew member, and said he wanted to use it upon landing.

Karnataka: BJP leader and advocate G Devaraje Gowda was arrested in connection with a sex abuse video allegedly belonging to Hassan JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna.

According to police, Devaraje Gowda was arrested at Gulihal tollgate by the Hiriyur police in this district on Friday night for leaking the video in a pen drive.

He was arrested on a tip-off received by the Hassan police, which wanted his presence for the case.

Several explicit videos involving Prajwal started making the rounds ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, which took place on April 26.

The MP, a grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, is absconding and a 'blue corner' notice has been issued against him by Interpol.

Three FIRs, including charges of rape, molestation, intimidation, blackmailing and threatening, have been registered against Prajwal.

Devaraje Gowda is accused of leaking these videos, which he has categorically rejected.

He contested in the 2023 Assembly elections against JD(S) MLA from Holenarasipura H D Revanna.

H D Revanna, father of Prajwal, is at present in jail on charges of kidnapping a woman, a mother of three.

Ahead of polls, Devaraje Gowda had warned BJP’s central leadership against backing Prajwal Revanna and brought his sex scandal to light.
