Repair of roads, efficient water supplies and issuance of birth and death certificates on time were some of the other demands.
MLC, Monappa Bhandary addressing the protesters said that the Congress is violating constitutional laws by not appointing mayor for the MCC.
According to constitution Mayor should be appointed within six months of election but due to the male domination in the MCC, Mayor post is vacated. "Since there is no administration public are facing road, water and street light problems,” he said.
Urging state government to appoint MCC Mayor, Monappa Bhandary said, “the move of the JD(S) and the Congress of filing a petition in the court questioning Mayoral reservation has shown their real face.
He further said that heavy rainfall in the district has damaged roads and drains. No repair works have been taken up so far.
With regard to delay in issuance of birth and death certificates in the MCC, Mr Bhandary said that there is no control over MCC officials.
Criticising the Congress minsters Monappa Bhandary said that whenever the issue of appointing Mayor to the MCC is raised, Ministers U T Khader and Ramanath Rai point fingers at Vinay Kumar Sorake and wash their hands off.
