Mangalore, Sep 26: Childline has filed a complaint in Konaje Police station against a teacher of Nishara Public School, Harekala for punishing 23 students of VII Standard to take sit-ups 1000 times for not completing homework.
According to the complaint, Computer Science teacher Sowmya asked the students to take sit-ups in front of all their classmates on Monday and 13 students remained absent from the school on Tuesday due to leg pain as result of taking sit ups.
Based on the complaint that Childline received from a few parents of the victim children, Childline staff visited the school for a reality check.
On visiting the school, students have orally complained that they were asked to take sit-ups 1000 times.
Based on the Childline's version, a complaint has been filed in Konaje police staion, said Childline Director Renny D'Souza.
He said it is the clear violation of Section 7 of Right to Education Act.
The school authorities said they will initiate action against the teacher.
B. Abdul Razak, chairman of Hydrose Haji Memorable Charitable Trust that runs the school said the teacher would be suspended.
