Mangalore, Sep 30: IPS officer Shantanu Sinha officially took over as the new Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada Rural on Monday.
This is his first district posting for Shantanu Sinha. His posting comes after the Karnataka state government transferred several IPS officers last week.
“The intention of the police department is to address the law and order and crime in their entirety. The work of a police officer should be seen through actions, and so will the work of an SP,” he said.
Speaking on the insufficient number of police stations and staff in the district, Mr Sinha said that he would try to ensure that more police stations and police personnel would be sanctioned to the department.
An IPS officer of 2009 batch, Mr Sinha had previously been the joint Lokayukta SP of Belgaum, Bagalkot and Bijapur.
He had served as the deputy commissioner of police (law and order) in Mysore for a period of 50 days on election duty. Before that, he had served as the senior assistant superintendent of police in Channapatna subdivision in Ramanagaram district, after having worked in Shimoga on probation for six months.
Hailing from Delhi, Mr Sinha had worked for a period of four-and-half-a-half year in the IT industry, before joining the civil services.
His predecessor Abhishek Goyal has been posted as the Lokayukta SP in Bangalore.
