Bantwal, Oct 1: The BJP backed candidate Kamalakshi K Poojary has won the elections for Kadeshwalya Taluk Panchayat constituency by 3362 votes.
Her opponent, Congress backed candidate Rajeevi earned 2832 votes. Kadeshwalya was in the hands of the BJP and during last election and then the BJP backed candidate had defeated the opponent by 250 votes. This time the margin has increased to 530 votes.
It is said that Kamalakshi's popularity in the region can be attributed largely for her success. She was elected as GP member thrice and has served as the GP president for two terms.
There are 33 members in the Taluk Panchayat out of which 17 are BJP members and 16 Congress members. Last time, since one of the members of BJP named Jayanthi remained absent for the election of the President and Vice-President for second term, both parties had equal members.
As per the reservation, Lalitha Shivappa Naik from the BJP became the president.Through a draw, Ananda Shambhoor was elected as the vice-president.
This Taluk Panchayat constituency has been retained by the BJP despite the fact that it is in an Assembly constituency which is represented by the Congress.
