Udupi, Oct 2: Members of the Karnataka Komu Sauharda (KKSV) staged a protest against the'Khadga Deekshe' (oath of swords) ceremony to be organised by the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha in Mangalore on October 25.
Addressing the protesters, writer and president of the district unit of KKSV G Rajashekhar said that Executive President of the State unit of Mahasabha Swami Pranavananda had in a press conference held in Mangalore on September 15 said that there was an attack on the country, women and cows. Hence, the Mahasabha would hold a'Khadga Deekshe' and provide swords to 5,000 youths so that they could be ready for any street fight.
When the situation in the Coastal region was sensitive, the reported statement of Swami Pranavananda would vitiate the atmosphere.
Besides, giving swords to youths could lead to unprovoked violence, he said.
Mr. Rajashekhar said that the hope that a change of government at the State-level would bring about a change in the situation in coastal region had been belied. The police stations in the coastal districts were still acting as dens of the Bajrang Dal.
It was under the secular government led by Chief Minister Sidddaramaiah that a writer Yogish Master had been arrested for his work Dhundi , he said.
Mr. Rajashekhar said that Home Minister K.J. George should direct the district administration of Dakshina Kannada to take appropriate legal action against persons/organisations involved in organizing the'Khadga Deekshe'. All steps should be taken to maintain peace and order in Dakshina Kannada. Comprehensive measures should be taken to protect the members of the minority communities in Dakshina Kannada and this should be made known to the general public, Mr. Rajashekhar said.
Leaders of district unit of KKSV Dinakar Bengre and K. Phaniraj, Convener of Forum for Inter-Faith Relations Hayavadana Moodusagri, President of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti Jayan Malpe, social activist William Martis, and others were present.
