Demonstrating this to students of Ashok Vidyalaya located in Ashoknagar on the outskirts of Mangalore at a programme on Sunday, Gopadkar taught the eager students few memory techniques to memorise different subjects.
The programme was a session of memory and learning techniques for students by Gopadkar, founder of Swaroopa Adhyayana Kendra.
He said that the present education system forced students to forget rather than encouraging them to learn. Contending in an unconventional way about education and studies, he urged the students to think in unconventional manner and study through self-learning.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo said that students were unable to cope up with their studies due to parental pressure and lack of memory power in recent times. In olden times, there was no pressure on the students to study. Lack of concentration remains to be an obstacle for students in the field of education.
Parents have to create an atmosphere at home where children are able to study with peace and concentration, he said adding that the parents and elders in the family, along with teachers, have to deliberate on the issues of today and prepare the children to face the challenges.
“We have to teach them to respect the elders, regard our rich history with pride and raise them as ideal and law-abiding citizens, as they are the leaders of tomorrow,” he said, adding that the power of reasoning had to be developed in students through education.
Corporators of Mangalore City Corporation Radhakrishna and Nagaveni, and president of Vidyavardhaka Sangha P Seetharam Bhat also spoke on the occasion.
