Mangalore, Oct 7: A mandir of Shirdi Sai Baba will be established at Shree Gokarnatheshwara temple at Kudroli on Thursday, the sixth day of Navarathri, and a statue of Sai baba will be installed in the mandir on the same day, informed former Union Minister and managing trustee of the temple B Janardhan Poojary at a press conference here on Monday.
He said that the constructed of the mandir had been completed and it would be inaugurated on Friday at 5.30 p.m. by a widow. The statue of Sai baba has been sculpted entirely in white marble brought specially from Vietnam. The entire cost of the construction of mandir has been borne by my son Santhosh Kumar Poojary, who is employed as an international director at an overseas company, he said.
He said that the Sai baba statue stood 5 feet 7.5 inches tall in height.
Widows appointed as priestesses
Divulging details about the two widows trained and appointed as priestesses at the temple on Sunday, he said that Lakshmi Shanthi and Indira Shanthi were 67 years and 45 years old respectively. Lakshmi Shanthi had lost her husband 20 years ago and had two sons and three daughters, all of whom were married. Indira Shanthi had lost her husband five years ago and had two sons and a daughter, he said.
On becoming priestesses, 'Shanti' has been added to their names and hence will be called Lakshmi Shanthi and Indira Shanthi hereafter.
He said that Lokesh Shanthi, a Gurumandir priest from B C Road, had trained several women to perform temple rituals and had been approached four months ago by the management of the temple to train two widows as priestesses.
President of the temple development committee H S Sairam and committee members Raghavendra Kuloor, Harikrishna Bantwal and Padmaraj were present.
