Bantwal, Oct 7: Condemning the offensive remarks made against the medical community during the protest held in connection with the death of vice-president of Sarapady gram panchayat Shakuntala, all private medical facilities were suspended in Bantwal taluk as per the call given by Indian Medical Association.
As a result, patients had to suffer and face inconvenience due to this symbolic bundh by private medical hospitals. As all the nursing homes, medical stores and clinics in the taluk were shut since morning on Monday, patients who had arrived to get treatment and medicines underwent a lot of trouble.
Even small children were affected by the shutdown, as they were unable to receive treatment from doctors. Parents who had come to pay a visit to the doctors had to return without any injections or medicines for their young ones.
However, treatment was continued for those in-patients who had already been admitted in nursing homes. In the backdrop of the bundh, police protection had been provided to all nursing homes in the taluk.
All primary health care centres including Bantwal public health centre remained open, inspite of the bundh, and catered to the patients. Due to the shutdown, however, the inflow of patients who visited these centres was more than usual.
For emergency cases, patients were rushed to Mangalore for treatment.
