Mangalore, Oct 13: Police have successfully nabbed two inter-state cattle-lifters at Surathkal, thereby making headway in pulling out more information on the systematic cattle theft racket that has been functioning in the region.
Amjad alias Chotu (30) from Theerthahalli and Muhammad Haneef (30) from Koteshwara are the arrested.
While Chotu was arrested from Theerthalli on Friday, Haneef was nabbed from Mangalore on Saturday.
The two are the close aides of the three inter-state cattle lifters who were earlier nabbed by the cops, some days ago. The gang has lifted over 2,000 cattle from Shimoga, Hasan and various other places over the last two years. They were supplying cattle to an abattoir in Ullal.
Haneef is a resident of Jeppu-Bappal and the gang has been executing theft in his Scorpio vehicle. The vehicle, which has been modified to suit the trade, was seized by the cops recently near Neermarga. He is an accused in cattle theft in Bantwal and a cheating case in Panambur.
Panambur ACP Ravi Kumar, SI M A Nataraj among others took part in the operation.
The arrested have been produced before the court.
Three persons arrested for transporting cattle in Vittal.
Vittal: Three persons have been nabbed by Vittal police for transporting five cattle illegally, on Saturday morning at Budoli in Mani village.
Rizwan (25) from Belur in Hasan, Nayaz (23) and Shaukat (26) from Chembugudde are the arrested. They were transporting the cattle from Halebeedu.
Acting on a tip off Vittal SI Madhav Kudlu and team nabbed the culprits at Budoli.
