Mangalore, Oct 18: The Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) has the target of constructing about eight lakh houses by 2015, said M H Ambareesh, Minister for Housing cum Sandalwood actor.
He was in the city on Thursday to review the developmental works at Deputy Commissioner's office here.
He said around five lakh houses under housing board for below poverty line families and other projects being blocked for violating norms. Dakshina Kannada district alone has 11,000 blocked houses, he said.
State is facing financial problems to complete allotted houses of BPL families under housing schemes. Every year nearly Rs 4,500 crore to Rs 5,000 crore is required to complete the construction work, he said.
“Some have violated norms while building houses under government schemes and those houses being blocked. It is mainly because of the lack of information. Now PDO's are trained to provide information to families. Earlier nodal officers had control over it now training PDO's help us to monitor them easily”, he said.
“Coastal Karnataka has problem due to rainy season since families cannot build house during rainy season. Same time they need to repay the loan. There is problem in bank loan too. But we are trying to sort out the issue,” he said. Present fund for houses being increased from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.2 lakh, he added.
Cabinet has approved proposal for affordable housing schemes for Low Income Groups (LIG) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Under this scheme apartments will be built in 60:40 ratios. Builders can take up 60 percent and 40 percent will be allotted for EWS and LIG's. Government will provide subsidy for 40 percent houses alloted for EWS and LIG's, he said.
“It is a plan yet and we have to finalise the steps on which we can consider land and allot of houses”, he said.
