Ullal group-clash: Five nabbed; one still critical

Mangalore, Oct 20: Five persons have been arrested in connection with group clash near Ullal Syed Madani Dargah on Friday.
The arrested have been identified as Imtiyaz, Akbar, Samad, Iqbal and Irfan. All are residents of Ullal.
Imtiyaz, Akbar, and Irfan were arrested for allegedly stabbing Shamsuddin (40) and Sawad (26) while Iqbal and Samad for allegedly throwing stones at policemen. All the five accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
According to police, the arrested have filed a counter case against on unknown group for assaulting on them, while offering prayers.
“Police security has been intensified for prevent further untoward clashes,” police said.
Two persons were allegedly stabbed following a clash between people opposed to Juma (prayer offered on Friday) being held at the Mohiuddin Juma Masjid and the people coming to prayers at the Masjid. Two police sub-inspectors and two policemen were injured after they were pelted with stones while dispersing members of the two groups.
Meanwhile, condition of Shamsuddin, who suffered an injury on his waist, continues to be critical and he was in the intensive care unit of a private hospital off the Falnir Road.
Sawad has undergone operation for the injury on his stomach in another private hospital in Thokkottu.
