Mangalore, Oct 20: The Yenepoya Foundation, a unit of YMK Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust and Yenepoya University awarded scholarships to 291 students who secured high percentage in SSLC, PUC, Graduation and PhD examinations.
The programme was organsised at Yendurance Zone on Saturday at Yenepoya University in Deralakatte.
A total of 15 institutions from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts who have secured 100 per cent results were awarded with cash and certificates.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that support is needed to help students to showcase their talents.
He lauded Yenepoya Foundation for its concern towards the development of the minorities.
The Academic Excellence Awards were given to students from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts, irrespective of religious background. The award consisted of cash awards ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000, along with certificates. The Foundation is distributing scholarship worth Rs 10.24 lakh.
The Yenepoya University has sponsored five students of MBBS, four of BDS and some students of B Sc (Nursing), BPT and MPT on merit cum means basis and some seats of BPT and B Sc (Nursing) under sports quota. The total amount earmarked for the scholarship is Rs 2.5 crore.
MLA Moideen Bava also spoke on the occasion. Yenepoya Foundation Chairman Yenepoya Mohammed Kunhi presided over the programme.
Y Abdulla Kunchi, Chancellor of the University, Dr P Chandramohan, Vice Chancellor, B Ahmed Haji Moideen of B A Group, Dr Habeeb Rahman, Chairman of Unity Health Complex, Prof P C M Kunchi, Director of Yenepoya Unviersity, Khalid Bawa, Moideen Rizwan, Abdul Javed, trustees and others were present.
