Mangalore, Oct 23: In connection with the clash that broke out between two different communities in Mallur near Neermarga on Monday night, the Mangalore rural police have begun interrogating five persons and have launched a complete search for more suspects from both the communities.
The communal clash, which began over a trivial issue, caused tension in the area and resulted in injuries to nine persons.
The problem began when a motorcycle belonging to Praveen was allegedly damaged by some children when he had come to Mallur to attend the funeral rites of a woman. It is said that the children were allegedly targeted by a group supporting Praveen, as a result of which few persons were said to have gotten injured.
15-year-old Batish said that he and his brother Khoja were attacked by around 20 members at 6 p.m. on Monday, even as they were proclaiming their non-involvement in the matter. It is learnt that the group then chased the two boys to their grandmother Fathima's house nearby. The group then allegedly hit Fathima and a neighbour Avoom.
All the four victims were admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore. Batish's relatives have lodged a complaint against those who assaulted him and his family members.
It is said that angered by this, another faction began targeting Praveen and his group in retaliation, before throwing stones at the house belonging to Kunjappa. The group supporting Praveen alleged that they were also attacked by the other group. Kunjappa, Umavati and Lata were injured when stones were thrown, and were admitted to government Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore.
The case is being probed by Mangalore rural police.
