Mangalore, Oct 26: Activists of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike (KKSV) have demanded the government to recommend a CBI probe into the cases of unnatural deaths, which had taken place in the limits of Dharmasthala and Belthangady in the past ten years.
General secretary of the Vedika K L Ashok, addressing mediapersons at a press conference here on Saturday, expressed his dissatisfaction over the CID investigation over the Soujanya rape and murder case and said that the police done not conducted proper investigation in the cases of murders and unnatural deaths in areas of Ujire and Belthangady. Hence, there is need for CBI probe into every case including those of illegal land acquisition, he urged.
Even after the parents of victim Soujanya directly pointed out at the family of Dr Veerendra Heggade behind the rape and murder of Soujanya, police have not taken any action against it. The dead bodies found in river Nethravati and its surroundings also deserve justice. Democracy gets its real meaning only if the real culprits are punished, Ashok said.
He said that the public needed to question the system of democracy in Dharmasthala. Since Nagarika Seva Trust accuses of illegal acquisition of land belonging to Dalit families by the Dharmasthala Trust, it needs to be probed by CBI, he urged, demanding that Dr Veerendra Heggade had to answer to the public.
Human rights activist P B D'Sa said, “Some have pointed out at a visa copy of the accused offered as proof of innocence by Dr Veerendra Heggade. If the visa copy presented turns out to be fake, then the accused has to be arrested.”
“Rapists deserve punishment of the lowest level. Some are using religious places for vote banking, complained P B D'Sa, adding that every political party had to raise its voice for justice in Soujanya case.
