Mangalore, Oct 31: The members of the district Anganwadi Workers' Union have decided to hold'Vidhana Soudha Chalo' on November 19, opposing unscientific method adopted in extending and regularising work hours of Anganwadi till 4 p.m.
Speaking at a news conference here on Wednesday Vishlakshi, president of District Anganwadi Workers' Union said that the government has to take the responsibility of providing job security to anganwadi workers since they cannot continue their part time jobs as most of the anganwadi workers have been supplementing their income by doing part-time jobs.
Vishalakshi said that children are being made to stay in the school till 4 pm, which in a way deprives them of parental care and nutritious food that they receive at home.
“The food given to them, under various schemes, is only acting as supplementary nutrition. The school hours should end at 1.30 pm,” she said adding that the decision to keep them in the class till 4 pm will have negative impact.
“Present anganwadi centres in state have more than 8 hours work and government should revise the timings. It is unscientific and study reports have proved it. In order to repeal the order of time extension, we have organised a Vidhana Soudha Chalo,” she said.
