Mangalore, Nov 1: Several activists belonging to the district unit of Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU), Mahila Daurjnaya Virodi Okkuta and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) were held outside Deputy Commissioner's office here on Friday, while they attempted to picket the office during their protest condemning the delay in justice in the rape and murder case of PUC student of SDM College, Ujire.
A tense situation prevailed on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava for a few minutes as activists tried to picket the DC office on Friday.
Close to 100 activists tried to move past the barricades put up outside the office compound and demanded justice for rape and murder victim of Ujire.
They urged CBI probe in rape and murder of a student of SDM Pre-University College in Ujire on October 9, 2012.
The protesters demanded justice for Soujanya (name changed), whose case has received final CID investigation report after a year has not been satisfactory.
As the protesters tried to move past the barricades, the local police rounded them up and took them to the police station in vans, as people looked on.
