Tumkur, Nov 3: At a time when communal tolerance between different communities is on the decrease in the state, here is an example of religious leaders of the Muslim community who have come forward to maintain communal harmony.
With miscreants having vandalized several idols of deities in a Hindu temple at Pavagada town near here, several members from the Muslim community staged a protest led by clerics of local masjids and other Muslim leaders and strongly condemned the vicious act.
Few idols of deities in Kanive Narasimha Swamy temple located on the outskirts of Pavagada were vandalized by miscreants in the dead of the night last Sunday. Since several decades, such communally-provocative instances had not occurred in the small town of Pavagada, and a tense atmosphere had been created due to the vandalism.
In such a situation, clerics of all the seven masjids in the town jointly held a protest rally around the place, owing to which peace and harmony was restored in the place to some extent. In the protest rally, the leaders urged that the miscreants who had committed the vandalism be immediately arrested and punished.
