Bangalore, Nov 4: While Deepawali was a joyous occasion for most people, it was an unpleasant one for some. For, over 35 people have been injured, two of them seriously, in various fire cracker accidents in the City during the festival.
Satish, a 31-year-old from Magadi, was brought to Minto Eye Hospital with severe injury in his right eye. Doctors confirmed that the injury has led to permanent blindness.
Satish, a chemist by profession, was injured on Sunday morning when he stopped his two-wheeler on Uttarahalli main road to have tea. “A rocket pierced his eyes as he removed his helmet,” sources in the hospital said.
In another incident, a seven-year-old boy, a resident of Mathikere, was admitted to Narayana Nethralaya with severe injuries in the eye on Sunday afternoon. Sources in the hospital said that the boy's cornea was torn when he lit a cracker.
“He will be operated upon tomorrow after which we will be get a clear picture about the extent of damage caused,” the source added.
Hemanth, 25, a resident of Sheshadripuram, a by-stander, suffered minor injuries in his right eye when a cracker burst. “The injury is minor. He had conjunctival burn and will recover soon,” Dr Arun Samprathi from Samprathi Eye hospitals said.
As many as 17 patients were given treatment at the out-patients department of Narayana Nethralaya, six at Minto Eye Hospitals and seven at Shankara Eye Hospital.
Three patients with minor burns were admitted in the burns ward of Victoria Hospital on Sunday.
