Mangalore, Nov 4: With an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Left parties across the state are keen on providing an alternative political platform to the people of Karnataka, as an alternative to the destructive economic policies of the Congress-led UPA government and BJP-led NDA government.
In order to propagate the set of alternative policies to the people, the city unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) organised a convention on alternative politics at NGO Hall, Hampankatta here on Monday
Speaking on the occasion, CPI(M) Kerala state committee member A K Narayan said that the functioning of the administration led by two primary political parties in the country had left the people weary and frustrated. In its ten years of ruling, instead of implementing economic policies in favour of sections of the society such as farmers, labourers, students, women, Dalits, tribals, minorities and the underprivileged, the UPA government has implemented several corporate policies favouring multi-national financial institutions, he said, adding that the people had lost their faith even in the present state government led by Siddaramaiah
He said that the claim of BJP as the alternative to Congress and projecting Narendra Modi as an able leader was only to hoodwink the people. Instead of uniting the people for national security and sovereignty, the policies of the BJP are dividing the people on communal lines. As an alternative to these anti-people economic policies of the Congress and the BJP, the country needs alternative set of policies in favour of the ignored sections of the society and not alternative leaders, he said.
The set of alternative policies proposed by the CPI(M) include implementation of land reform measures, distribution of surplus land to the poor, ensuring house sites to each landless household, end to illegal and forcible land acquisition, introduction of universal public food distribution system, scrapping of FDI in retail trade, stepping up of public investment for infrastructure, provision of equal rights to women from all strata and adoption of an independent foreign policy.
CPI(M) city unit secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal, DYFI district president Muneer Katipalla, Krishna Konchady and others were present.
