Mangalore, Nov 9: Demanding formation of a special police team to specifically look into mysterious death of college students, the All College Student Association (ACSA) staged a day-long hunger stir in front of Deputy Commissioner's office here on Saturday.
Speaking on the backdrops of case of Akshatha (18), a second year B.Com student of Venkataramana Government First Grade College, Car Street who was found dead near an ice plant at Mulihitlu on September 25 after she went missing from her home at Adyar on September 23, Rakshit S Poojary, president of ACSA said that there have been many cases of teenage girls going missing and Akshatha's case was just the tip of the iceberg.
“Akshatha had left home to attend special classes but she never went to college. Her relatives filed a complaint at Mangalore Rural police station the next day. It was learnt that Akshatha was friendly with a boy from Manjeshwar who too has gone missing,” he said suspecting foul play in the case.
He said that even post-mortem reports have not shed light on the cause for Akshatha's death.
“Now the police department has to form a special team for investigating this case,” he said.
Akshatha's mother Rajani addressing the gathering said that Akshatha was the ray of hope for the family which was wading through tough times due to poverty.
