Addressing mediapersons at a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that the state government had given its approval for the project and a master plan had been prepared and sent to the Centre for approval.
Out of the estimated amount of Rs 165.60 crore, a sum of Rs 124.20 crore (75 percent) will be funded by the Central government grant, Rs 33.12 crore (20 percent) will be funded by New Mangalore Port Trust and Rs 8.28 crore (5 percent) will be funded by the state government. The proposed 535 metre-long jetty will have a capacity of harbouring 190 boats on an average, he said.
Fishing net mending sheds for fishermen
Two net-mending sheds will be constructed in Kulai and Mukka at a total cost of Rs 25 lakhs for the convenience of the fishermen. Programmes will be undertaken to develop beaches along the coastline such as KREC beach and Panambur beach, he said.
Airport runway to be extended
A proposal has been sent to the Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ajit Singh for the extension of runway at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) at Bajpe at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crores. The proposed project will be undertaken once the acquisition of 225 acres of surrounding land required for the purpose has been done by the state government, he said.
Regional RTO office proposed at Suratkal
The MLA also announced setting up of an Regional Transport Office shortly in Suratkal to curb some of the pressure at the RTO office in Mangalore.
Sports stadium at Kulai
He also said that a proposal had been sent to the Chief Minister of Karnataka for the construction of a full-fledged sports stadium at Kulai on the outskirts of the city, which will include a swimming pool, indoor stadium and a cricket stadium.
The underground drainage (UGD) system will be completed under the KUDCEMP scheme and brought into use within a couple of months in Mangalore North constituency, he added.
