Mangalore, Nov 14: Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike(KKSV) will stage a series of protests across the State against the visit of the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to Bangalore on November 17.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, district president of the Vedike, said that the protests, to be staged in 14 districts, including Dakshina Kannada, would focus on the 2002 riots in Gujarat as well as the State's “poor” record in social indicators.
“Even as he is on a propaganda spree to highlight the development there, we want to remind the public of his'fascist' government, role in the riots and the social conditions in Gujarat. While farmers, women and children are neglected in his “development model”, big corporate houses get heavily subsidised land,” he said.
Taking objection to the Gujarat Chief Minister's “attempt to distort” history, Mr. Bhat said that the Vedike will bring out a book detailing the “lies and inaccuracies” delivered by Mr. Modi during his rally speeches. The Vedike believed that the atmosphere created by Mr. Modi was similar to the one in Germany and Italy before the rise of Nazism and fascism.
“The propaganda machine, and the involvement of foreign public relations agencies to create his image is impressing the new voters, who do not know the truth of the carnage in Gujarat,” said P.B. D'Sa, State President of People's Union for Civil Liberties.
While the State-wide protest will be organised on November 15 at 5.30 p.m. in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office, a protest is being planned in front of the rally venue in Bangalore on November 17, said Vedike office-bearers.
