Ullal, Nov 16: The faction opposing the'Juma Namaz' at Melangadi Mohiuddin New Masjid, on Friday staged a protest holding banners upholding their stand. With this, the confusion that has been hovering over the Masjid over the last five weeks has been taken to another level.
The devotees who had come to the Masjid on Friday morning started leaving the premises in the afternoon after performing the'Kutuba' or the afternoon prayers. In the meantime, over 50 persons who have been opposing the prayers at New Masjid, gathered at Ullal Dargah and staged a stir. However, police who rushed to the spot on time, brought the situation under control.
It may be recalled that Juma prayers were started at News Masjid on October 18 under the guidance of Mangalore Khazi.
Following this, the Wakf Board issued a stay order on the namaz here but the Masjid Committee went to the Court and got the permission to continue the prayers.
Though efforts were made to solve the issue by calling a meeting of religious heads, it did not yield the desired results.
However, though DCP Jagadish had said that a meeting will be convened on November 12 to sort out the matter, the meeting was not held.
