Mangalore, Nov 17: In a joint press conference by the district units of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, VHP regional working president M B Puranik said that the anti-superstition bill drafted by the state government had been drafted unscientifically and focused mainly on the religious beliefs of the Hindu community, and would be vehemently opposed.
A meeting of Hindu religious leaders, thinkers, purohits and scholars was held where a consensus was reached that the anti-superstition bill should be opposed as it seeks to curtail the fundamental right of religious freedom of citizens in the country. The bill goes against the constitution and hurts the sentiments and beliefs of the Hindu community. In the coming days, the society will come together and oppose it unitedly, he said, adding that similar meetings would be held in Udupi, Puttur and Kodagu districts in the state.
He said that the organisations had formed'Dharmika Swatantrya Samrakshana Samiti' (Religious Freedom Protection Committee) in order to unitedly oppose the anti-superstition bill. “We will not allow the bill to be tabled in the winter session of the Legislative Assembly”, he said.
A postcard revolution and demonstration will be undertaken in the future, he added, urging the Governor of Karnataka to withdraw the bill.
