Mangalore, Nov 17: Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology B Ramanath Rai said that the opposition cannot simply go attacking the Congress-led government at the state for its schemes.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said that the opposition parties should accept what the Congress government has achieved after coming to power. The state government has undertaken several developmental schemes for the poor and downtrodden sections of the society. While the BJP wholeheartedly appreciated Chhattisgarh chief minister for distributing rice at Rs 2 per kg to the public, it does not appreciate Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's scheme to distribute rice for BPL families at Re 1, he said, adding that the union minister for road transport Oscar Fernandes had sanctioned a sum of Rs 1,000 crore from the Central Road Fund for development of highways in the state.

Scientific study on impact of Yettinahole project

Speaking on the controversial Yettinahole project, he said that he would discuss with the irrigation minister on conducting a scientific study on the impact of the project in Dakshina Kannada before implementing the project.

Speaking on the impact of implementation of Yettinahole project with regard to the Kasturi Rangan report on eco-sensitive areas of the Western Ghats, Mr Rai said that he had not received the circular from the Central Environment Ministry banning developmental activities in Eco Sensitive Zone (ESZ) of Western Ghats. The department supports the view of the Central government and it will take the necessary steps to ban development works in the ESZ after receiving the circular, he assured.
