Mangalore, May 23: Dismayed citizens along with a host of local politicians took out a march in the city to express condolence and show their solidarity with the families of the victims of one of the worst aviation tragedies of the country on Sunday, May 23.
Over 200 people joined the march that commenced at Nehru Stadium, proceeded through Lady Goshen Hospital road silently and dispersed inside the compound of Wenlock Hospital.
Addressing the gathering Krishna J Palemar, the District -In charge-Minister announced that the District will observe a week long mourning to pay homage to the crash victims.
“A week long mourning in the District has begun on Saturday. No Government programmes will be conducted during this period”, he said urging the people to cooperate with this necessary decision.
He also informed that this year's Abbakka Utsava, which was scheduled to be held on May 22 and 23, was also called off.
U T Khader, MLA, said that this Saturday will remain a dark day in the history of this country for ever. He also urged the Government to conduct a fair enquiry over the mysterious crash and prevent the reoccurrence of such incidents.
Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Yogish Bhat, MLA, Capt Ganesh Karnik and many others were present.
