Mangalore, May 23: The last rituals and funerals of the dozens of victims of Saturday's flight crash have begun in their native places as per the guidelines of their respective religions.
S M Rasheed Haji, the treasurer of Zeenath Bakhsh Jumma Masjid has said that as many as 35 bodies of victims arrived from the hospital since Saturday evening to the premises of the mosque for pre burial rituals i.e. washing of the body.
“The charred bodies themselves explain the extent of tragedy. We have already performed the washing rituals of a total of 35 victims from different parts of the district and also from the neighbouring state”, he said.
He also said that three bodies, including that of a mother and son were buried in the premises of the mosque.
“Yesterday we buried one of the victims and today after offering Fajr prayers we buried dead bodies of a mother and her eight year old son” Haji added.
Mean while, mass funerals of the two members of the St. Alphonsa Church, Kankanady were conducted in the city in the afternoon of Sunday. These victims have been identified as Godvina and Gloria.
Neville Noronha, Noronhas St Joseph's Undertakers, Jeppu spoke to Coastaldigest.com and informed that they carried out the washing and other funeral rites of the deceased hailing from Kerala at Kankanady. The bodies of Pilots Z Glusica and H S Ahluwalia were also cleaned by us,he informed.
